Fine Art Portraiture

Lately all of my time has been spent working on the wedding and portrait photography business my wife and I own and operate; WindelHill Photography. We’ve taken on fine art studio portraiture, which I’m loving. Everything from getting the lighting dialed in to coming up with new, natural poses to shooting to editing to delivering, I love the whole process.

Our first time to Mt. Rainier Nat’l Park couldn’t have been better. The surroundings were stunning, the weather was perfect and the friends who took us there were a blast to camp with. Can’t wait to go back!

Rattlesnake Nat’l Recreation Area

We spent an amazing 3-day weekend in Missoula, both to celebrate my birthday and to see Modest Mouse, one of my favorite bands. Before heading back to Portland yesterday we took a hike up in the Rattlesnake (Nat’l Recreation Area). Back in the day I lived just down the road from the trailhead, and this was a nice reminder of why I love this corner of Montana so much. I woke up to the perfect spring morning today; the sun was out, the birds were chirping, the lawn was full of fresh dew and all felt right with the world. It prompted me to pull out the camera and capture something… Nature is so unbelievable, and yet so often we don’t pay any attention to what’s right at our feet.

Happy Dogs

I took the dogs to the park today to let them run and enjoy the sunshine (rare in these parts this time of year) and figured no better time to figure out the autofocusing system on the new 1D MkIV. Have to say, I’m really happy with the results. The tracking within the AI focus system on this camera is unbelievable – makes shooting so fun. And the dogs didn’t seem to mind modeling for me!

I parked in front of this building today and my view from the curb as I got out was this looming, towering monstrosity. I couldn’t help myself from photographing it. It doesn’t fit in in its neighborhood downtown, but I like it on its own.

Clapton at the Rose Garden

Traci and I scored passes to the Clapton show last night and wow, what an awesome performance. We gave up our seats one section off the floor right next to the stage to sit on road cases at FOH, in the sweet spot as far as audio is concerned. Thanks again to Robert Collins for the passes!

Traci and I decided to skip the airport / flying madness this year and make the 1100 mile drive to Colorado for Christmas. It also allowed us to bring the dogs, which sealed the deal!

Snow Day!

We were shocked today to look outside and see the rain had slowed down and turned white. SNOW?! Really?! Not that it never snows here, but it is pretty rare, especially this early in the year. But it was great – we enjoyed it.

AES San Francisco

Logitech sent part of our Acoustic Engineering team down to the AES conference in San Francisco, and I was one of the lucky ones who got to go! This is my first time being to an AES conference and I’m really glad I was able to make it. What a cool experience, being surrounded by like-minded audio geeks.
